Historic base ball is at the heart of this month’s Macy’s 2nd Monday. Bring the young ones to Greenfield Village bright and early (we open at 9:30) and take a swing at some of the special activities planned for children between 10 a.m. and noon. (Click here for a coupon for 25% off on adult admission to Greenfield Village valid for Macy’s 2nd Mondays only.)
There will be live musical entertainment with Garry the Guitar Guy at the village Town Hall. While you’re close by, get in some pitching practice with a baseball beanbag toss right there on the Village Green. Children can also learn about baseball the two-word way – which would be historic “base ball.” Get some insights into the rules of the game as it was played in the late 1800s and how it differs from the familiar modern-day game.
Souvenir photos will be available at the Tintype studio – where children can be photographed with players from one of Greenfield Village’s home teams: The Lah-De-Dahs. Near the Pavilion Courtyard, children will have the opportunity to make (and take home) their own team pennant.
You won’t hear complaints when the kids are back in the classroom when you take them to the Scotch Settlement School to hear some baseball-themed storytelling.
Don’t miss the coupon on the program for a discount on merchandise in the Village Store, valid for Monday only. There are also coupons for savings on the purchase of an annual membership and for admission to the next Macy’s Monday, August 13. The railroad theme is sure to delight engineers (of all ages!).
Macy’s 2nd Mondays are the greatest children’s outing in history – designed to inspire your little ones. They are held the second Monday of every month from 10 a.m. until noon. The special children’s activities are free of charge with admission or an annual member pass.
Thanks to Scott Callejah for the Flickr.com share of the great photos taken during a Lah-De-Dahs game in June.
