I have to be honest: I never tire of being part of helping plan a wedding at Greenfield Village.
I’m always interested in what the bride and groom envision as their perfect wedding there. Every couple has their own reasons for deciding to have a wedding at one of the venues of The Henry Ford. Every story is new, and every dream unique.
Putting together a wedding is almost like building a one-of-a-kind puzzle for each couple; all the pieces are there – and our job in private events planning is to help fit each one in just the right place.
If you’ve visited Greenfield Village, you can imagine that a wedding celebrated there is in itself unique. The setting is picturesque, exuding the history and charm distinctive to the 80-acre outdoor museum. Brides, grooms and their guests are treated to the beauty of the village just as it is.
Still, there are ways to add elements specific to Greenfield Village that are sure to enhance what already promises to be an unforgettable wedding. Rides on Model Ts and horse-drawn carriages are great ways to leave guests with another fond memory of the event while allowing them to see more of the village. For many wedding guests, it’s the first time they’ve been to Greenfield Village.
Couples can choose from numerous extras to make their wedding one-of-a-kind. Enhancements such as period reenactors, musical performances, cocktails at the historic 1913 Herschell-Spillman Carousel and other fun additions are the special pieces to the puzzle that are exclusive to a Greenfield Village wedding.
Another special touch many couples enjoy is that Greenfield Village has since 1965 had its own post office station and stamp. Oftentimes, couples will mail their invitations right from one of our two postal boxes (by the IMAX lobby in Henry Ford Museum, or near the Greenfield Village entrance), adding to the uniqueness of their upcoming event. (Of course, any guest to The Henry Ford is welcome to mail from the postal boxes as well!)
I love to hear from couples who have shared their special day with us. So if you’re one of those couples with a Greenfield Village wedding memory, please tell us about it. What did your guests remember most? What are some of the little things you remember about your big day?
I look forward to reading your stories and to another year of building puzzles with the many new happy couples who have chosen Greenfield Village to celebrate the start their married life.
