In case you missed it, we have been following Emily and Ed, a couple from New York City who planned and now hosted their wedding ceremony and reception in Henry Ford Museum on September 17. Over the past months we have talked about some of their wedding preparations. Here is how all the details came together on their beautiful and memorable day.
We planned for an outdoor ceremony in Pennsylvania Courtyard, but with Michigan weather, you just never know what will happen. The morning was gray and cool, but by the afternoon, the sun was shining. It ended up being a perfect day for an outdoor ceremony.
Once the ceremony area was ready to go, we got busy in Museum Plaza setting up tables, chairs, linens, gorgeous flowers, the wedding cake, music and more. Expectations were high, and at THF, we had a great team of people making sure that everything was just perfect for Emily and Ed.
The centerpieces and personal bouquets were amazing—they could all be replanted. Urbanscapes Detroit did an extraordinary job.
After everything was ready to go, Emily and Ed spent a few quiet moments together in the Heroes of the Sky Exhibit before making the walk down the aisle.
Emily and Ed put a lot of thought into their ceremony, designing it with love and respect. Their parents walked them down the aisle, and the ceremony was officiated by the friend who introduced them. There wasn’t a dry eye in the courtyard after Emily and Ed shared their vows.
After the ceremony, Emily, Ed and guests went into the Museum Plaza for a beautiful (and very fun) reception.
There were many compliments about our food. The locally grown salad, Mahi-Mahi poached with red wine, Portobello Napoleon, wedding cake, sensational miniatures and fresh fruit were all big hits.
Both Hot Club of Detroit and Ed’s band Mais Um (+1) played throughout the evening. Emily and Ed were great hosts, encouraging people to dance and even demonstrating some dance steps. Ed performed with his band, and it was a treat for all his family and friends from Michigan to see him play live, especially in such a cool and unique venue. The guests really enjoyed themselves.
The evening really was so beautiful, and it just flew by. One of my favorite details of the wedding reception was the complimentary pairs of flip flops Ed and Emily offered to their guests—for the aching feet on the dance floor. Guests had their own lists of favorite things: the food, the music, the microbrews, the outdoor ceremony. One guest told me her favorite part was making paper airplanes with her husband and racing each other in the Heroes of the Sky exhibit. It just goes to show, there is always something for everyone at The Henry Ford, and this wedding was not exception.
On my own behalf and that of The Henry Ford staff, I wish Emily, Ed and their families all the very best. It was truly an honor and a pleasure working with you. —Christina
